About us

In 2007, at a sports camp in Ramsau, Austria, former Estonian ski team member Timo Simonlatser, skier-physiotherapist Peeter Kümmel and then-Estonian ski team physiotherapist Lauri Rannama fundamentally changed the way athletes were treated. “Hey guys, at the World Ski Championships in Sapporo, Japan, I noticed some interesting rehabilitation tools, such as massage chairs”, Lauri said excitedly, presenting the idea to Peeter and Timo. Lauri vividly described his experience at a Sapporo hardware store, where he had the opportunity to try out various massage chairs, and they left a deep impression on him. “It was something completely different, none of us have tried anything like it before, either in Estonia or in Europe. These massage chairs save time, are versatile and durable” , – declared Lauri, “they must be brought to Estonia!”

The first order came so quickly that we hadn’t even set up the company yet…

A large shipping container arrived, filled with 3-4 different models of massage chairs, including models for public spaces with mechanisms designed to launch the chair by inserting a coin. “Those massage chairs from the first container are still in use in some places today, showing no signs of fatigue, even after more than twenty years of intensive use in public places!”

“Since all three of us were professional athletes for the Estonian ski team at the time, at first sport was the most important thing for us, and business took a back seat. We patiently waited for the right moment, and it came when our sports careers ended. After our sports careers ended, the massage chair business became our new activity. We put a lot of effort into developing the business, because we knew exactly what benefits it brings to a person.”

Over the last twenty years, the massage chair industry has made incredible strides around the world...

“When we started, the chairs lacked features such as hand lymphatic drainage massage or foot rollers. Even then, they were a novelty and interesting for people! But now, when we test new chairs, things have advanced so much that practically all massage chairs have these features. There is now a wide choice from L-shaped massage chairs covering the neck, back, buttocks and thighs, to S-shaped massage chairs that provide a more active massage, deeper stretching and lumbar rotation, which significantly improves the quality of the massage.

On our journey with the massage chairs, we have seen and contributed significantly to the health awareness of the people of the Baltic Sea Region. However, there is still a long way to go to realise that this is not just entertainment, as many people now see it, but a direct path to a healthier tomorrow, wellness, good mood, muscle elasticity and many other therapeutic elements that affect human physiology. Today, people usually buy a massage chair when their health has already been affected by age, prolonged irregular postures, accidents or injuries. This is often the last resort, the turning point that makes people more responsible towards their health.

Our carefully selected and tested Borealis massage chair models are manufactured in a Chinese factory with over 2,000 professionals... Borealis oversees the quality of production and develops the software for the massage programmes, which are based on the best practices of physiotherapists.

“To stay on top of the latest trends in the market, we commission demonstration models from other countries in Asia, the US and Europe every year for testing. We also take part in test sessions that bring together different manufacturers to ensure that innovation goes hand in hand with our products. There is no need to be alarmed that our products are made in China, as the highest quality standards are ensured and all products are tested in practice. If a product is technologically weak, it is discontinued and does not make it to the market. Please note that products sold in Western Europe are also assembled from parts made in China.

Our way in Lithuania

We started our journey in Lithuania in 2022.The market was interesting, the people were curious and concerned about the well-being of themselves and their families. We set up Borealis Lithuania, and we had to find people who believed in the idea and were committed to wellness sharing. We found them, and the activities started in May 2023. Step by step, we were actively moving towards customers. We looked for partners, we worked and are still working on spreading awareness. Stress control, muscle elasticity, tension reduction are not concepts that are so easily understood that people immediately understand what is relevant to them. Of course, massage chairs are only a preventive measure (although we do have certified therapeutic models), but company managers are beginning to realise the benefits to their businesses of having such a chair in their office. As we say, it’s not your costs, it’s your income through employee efficiency. So by the beginning of 2025, over 100 companies in Lithuania have already had the opportunity to benefit from the advantages and benefits of massage chairs. These chairs can be rented by companies for periods ranging from 3 months to 60 months, while individuals have the option to purchase them within 24 months at no extra cost.
